Schengen visa fee from the UK
The Schengen visa fee from the UK in 2026: €90 adults, €45 children 6-11, free under 6. What you pay in pounds, who is exempt, and the provider charges on top.
· 10 min read
UK residents who need a Luxembourg visa apply in person at the Embassy of Luxembourg in London, booking by email. The fee is €90 for adults and €45 for children 6 to 11, with no service charge; decisions usually take 15 days.

How to book through the official system (free, in your own name) and what to bring on the day.
British, Irish and EU citizens do not need a visa to visit Luxembourg for up to 90 days in any 180. Many other nationals living in the UK do (US, Canadian and Australian citizens, for example, do not), even with indefinite leave, settled status, a Skilled Worker visa or a family visa.
That includes nationals of India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Bangladesh, China and South Africa. UK residence lets you apply from here rather than your home country. Your UK permission should usually run at least 3 months beyond your return; Luxembourg’s official pages do not state a figure, so confirm with the Embassy. Read our guide to UK visa validity for a Schengen visa if yours is close to expiring. If you are in the UK on a standard visitor visa, you should normally apply in your home country instead; see Schengen visas on a UK visitor visa.
You prove UK status with a UKVI eVisa share code, not a BRP; our eVisa share code guide shows how. ETIAS, the €20 travel authorisation for visa-exempt travellers such as British citizens, is not yet operating, has no confirmed launch date and never replaces a visa for anyone who needs one. Non-EU visitors on short stays, visa holders and British citizens alike, now register in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) at their first Schengen crossing; see EES and ETIAS for UK residents.
You apply in person at the Embassy of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in London, and appointments are requested by email only. There is no VFS Global, TLScontact or BLS International centre for Luxembourg anywhere in the UK, no online calendar and no walk-ins.
This makes Luxembourg unusual. Most Schengen countries hand UK applications to a commercial visa centre with several cities and a booking website. Luxembourg’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs directs both short-stay and long-stay visa applications in the UK to its London Embassy, which receives your file and notifies you of the decision.
Note: Some travel websites say Luxembourg applications in the UK go through VFS Global. The Embassy and the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign Affairs both direct UK applicants to the Embassy itself and name no external visa centre for the UK. Rely on the official pages.
The Embassy is at 27 Wilton Crescent, London SW1X 8SD, a residential crescent in Belgravia. Hyde Park Corner and Knightsbridge Underground stations are each a short walk away. The consular section works by appointment only and lists visa application hours of 09:00 to 16:00 and a separate visa collection window of 15:00 to 16:00, Monday to Friday. The Embassy’s telephone number is 020 7235 6961.
| Who | Where to apply | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| England (all regions) | Embassy, London | Only UK submission point |
| Wales | Embassy, London | No Cardiff option |
| Scotland | Embassy, London | Luxembourg has an Honorary Consul in Edinburgh, but visa applications go to the Embassy |
| Northern Ireland | Embassy, London | Plan a day trip or overnight stay |
Because there is one submission point and a separate collection window, applicants from Scotland, Northern Ireland and the north of England may need two trips to London: one to submit and give fingerprints, and one to collect the passport. Ask at your appointment whether another return method is accepted before you book travel.
The Embassy’s consular page lists no booking fee and no intermediary: you request the appointment yourself, in your own name.
Important: We do not book, hold or supply visa appointments, and nobody can legitimately sell you a Luxembourg Embassy slot. We explain how the process works, help you write a clear booking request in your own name and make sure your application is complete for the day.
A small consular section serves the whole UK, so reply times and dates vary. Demand for Schengen visas from the UK generally rises before Easter, in late spring and summer, and in the weeks before Christmas. Email at least 6 to 8 weeks before travel, earlier for those peaks, and have your documents ready so you can accept the first date offered. Our Schengen visa appointment guide has wider timing advice.
Arrive a few minutes early with your confirmation, your passport, the signed form, originals and one set of photocopies. There is no visa centre to photocopy pages, take photos or sell extras, so bring everything printed. Staff check your file, take fingerprints (unless you gave them for a Schengen visa in the last 59 months, or you are under 12) and collect the visa fee. Expect to leave your passport with the Embassy while the application is processed, as it has a separate visa collection window; confirm the arrangements at your appointment.
Luxembourg’s requirements follow the standard Schengen rules, plus the engagement de prise en charge for hosted stays and stronger invitations for business and institutional visits. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says extra documents sent after you apply may still be considered if you contact the Embassy or its visa department, but strongly recommends a complete file from the outset, so treat the file you hand over as the file that is judged.
Your passport must be under 10 years old, valid at least 3 months after you leave the Schengen area, with two blank pages. Use the application form published on the Embassy website, complete every field and sign it; names, dates and addresses must match your other documents exactly. Your UK status is the eVisa share code with the printed GOV.UK status page. Insurance must give at least €30,000 of medical and repatriation cover in every Schengen state for every day of the trip; see our travel insurance guide.
Accommodation must cover every night. For hotels, use bookings in your name for the exact dates. For a private stay, bring the host’s invitation letter (their address, your dates and your relationship), a copy of their Luxembourg ID card or residence permit, and proof of their address. If the host is also paying for you, add their approved engagement de prise en charge:
Your cover letter should set out the purpose, dates, where you stay each night and any day trips across the border. Our cover letter guide has a structure.
An employer letter on headed paper with your role, salary, start date and approved leave dates, plus 3 months of payslips. The net pay should match the credits on your bank statements. See our employer letter guide.
Companies House or HMRC registration, your latest SA302 or tax return, and business statements alongside personal ones. Explain seasonal or irregular income; see our self-employed guide.
A letter from your university or college confirming enrolment and that the trip falls in a holiday, your eVisa, and your own funds or a parent’s letter with their statements. See our students guide.
Pension statements and savings showing regular income. Show a home or family ties in the UK to evidence your return.
A UK sponsor (spouse, parent) writes a letter covering your costs and adds their bank statements, ID or eVisa and proof of your relationship, such as a marriage or birth certificate.
A full birth certificate and consent from both parents, or from the absent parent with a copy of their passport. Children under 12 do not give fingerprints. See our guide to Schengen visas for children.

Get a document checkLuxembourg’s own visa pages do not set a fixed daily amount, but the EU’s table of reference amounts for crossing the external border, updated by the European Commission in June 2026, lists Luxembourg at €67 per person per day. Consulates use these reference amounts as a guide when they assess means of subsistence, so treat €67 a day as a floor rather than a target: the Ministry of Foreign Affairs asks you to show sufficient means for the whole stay and the return journey, and what counts as enough depends on your actual plan.
In practice that means bookings you can visibly afford, with money left for food and local travel, on top of your normal UK rent and bills. Luxembourg City hotels are expensive, so a week of hotel nights needs a healthier balance than a stay with relatives. Three months of statements that show steady income matching your payslips matter more than a single large figure.
If you cannot show enough yourself, a host in Luxembourg can sign an engagement de prise en charge, which the Ministry recognises as proof of means once it has approved it. A UK sponsor can also support you with a letter and statements. Large deposits just before applying, with no explanation, are a common red flag; our bank statements guide explains what consulates look for.
You pay only the Schengen visa fee: €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6 to 11, with children under 6 free. There is no visa centre, so there is no service charge.
The Embassy sets its own sterling figure and payment method, so ask when it confirms your appointment. Some applicants pay a reduced fee or none, for example family members of EU citizens covered by free movement rules. The fee is not refunded if you are refused.
| Fee | Amount | Paid to | When |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visa fee, adult (12 and over) | €90 (sterling set by the Embassy) | Embassy of Luxembourg | At your appointment |
| Visa fee, child aged 6 to 11 | €45 | Embassy of Luxembourg | At your appointment |
| Visa fee, child under 6 | Free | - | - |
| Visa centre service charge | None (direct embassy application) | - | - |
| Engagement de prise en charge | Free | Nothing to pay (host applies to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) | Before your appointment |
| Optional extras (premium lounge, SMS, courier) | None: there is no visa centre selling extras | - | - |
| Our admin support fee | Quoted separately, see /pricing/ | Schengen Visa Support | Before we start |
Your real extra costs are travel to London, possibly twice, and any return postage the Embassy accepts. More detail is in our Schengen visa fee guide.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says applications are generally processed within 15 calendar days of submission, extendable to 45 days if additional supporting documents are required. The real timeline is longer, because getting an appointment by email and, for hosted stays, the engagement approval both come first.
You can apply up to 6 months before travel and no later than 15 calendar days before. Do not book non-refundable flights until the visa is in your passport. See our processing time guide.
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| 10 to 12 weeks before travel | Confirm Luxembourg is your main destination; ask your host to start the engagement de prise en charge if needed |
| 8 weeks before | Email the Embassy for an appointment; book refundable accommodation and insurance |
| 6 to 8 weeks before | Gather payslips, statements, employer letter; generate your eVisa share code |
| Appointment (ideally 4 to 6 weeks before) | Submit in person, give fingerprints, pay the fee |
| About 15 days after | Typical decision; collect your passport in the 15:00 to 16:00 window |
| 15 days before travel | Latest date the rules allow you to apply |
Most UK residents apply for a short-stay type C visa for tourism, family visits or business, valid for up to 90 days in any 180. The purpose you choose decides which supporting documents carry the most weight.
Tourist. Luxembourg City’s old town and fortifications, Vianden castle, the Müllerthal trails near Echternach and the Moselle wine villages around Remich, including Schengen itself. Show hotel bookings and an outline itinerary.
Visiting family or friends. Bring your host’s invitation letter, their ID or residence permit and proof of address. If they pay for your stay, add the approved engagement de prise en charge. See our family visit visa guide.
Business. Luxembourg is a major centre for investment funds, banking and EU bodies. Bring a letter from the Luxembourg company stating the meeting dates, purpose and who pays, plus your UK employer’s letter. See our business visa guide.
Official and institutional visits. For the Court of Justice of the EU, the European Investment Bank or other Kirchberg institutions, the inviting body’s letter is central.
Airport transit. Only some nationalities need a type A airport transit visa to change planes at Luxembourg Airport without leaving the international zone. Check the EU list for your nationality before booking a connection there.
Students on holiday. UK students apply as tourists or family visitors, with a university letter confirming the trip falls in a break.
Stays over 90 days, for work, study or family reunion, need a national type D visa and a separate procedure. Luxembourg’s new long-stay (D) visa procedure applies from 1 October 2026, replacing the old step of first seeking a temporary authorisation to stay from the General Department of Immigration, so check the Embassy’s current guidance before applying.
Holidays in Luxembourg City, the Müllerthal and the Moselle valley, for up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
Staying with relatives or friends in Luxembourg, with an invitation letter and, where they cover your costs, an approved engagement de prise en charge.
Meetings, audits, training and conferences with Luxembourg firms and funds, supported by an invitation and a UK employer letter.
Short visits to the Court of Justice of the EU, the European Investment Bank and other Kirchberg institutions, with the inviting body's letter.
Festivals, competitions and short courses of under 90 days, with confirmation from the organiser or institution.
Type A visa for nationalities that need one to change planes at Luxembourg Airport (Findel) without entering the Schengen area.
What catches UK applicants out with Luxembourg is usually process, not documents: the email booking, the single embassy and the host guarantee.
Most Luxembourg refusals come down to a handful of avoidable problems. Fix them before your appointment rather than relying on sending documents later.
If you are refused, the notice lists the reasons. You have two routes, each with a 3-month deadline from notification of the refusal: an administrative appeal by signed letter (a handwritten signature is required) to the Passport, Visa and Legalisation Office, 6 rue de l’Ancien Athénée, L-1144 Luxembourg (the Ministry also lists [email protected]), or a court appeal before the Administrative Tribunal, which must be filed by a lawyer. Late or unsigned appeals are inadmissible. Some applicants reapply instead with evidence that answers each reason. Our guide to a refused Schengen visa explains both options.
Schengen Visa Support is an independent UK visa admin support service. We do the paperwork side of your Luxembourg visa properly, and we are clear about what we do not do.
UK-based team
Office at 128 City Road, London. Mon-Sat, 9am-6pm.
Fixed fee, quoted first
You know our price before you commit. Official fees are always paid directly to the visa centre.
Inside the rules
Appointments are booked officially, in your own name. No bots, no shared accounts, no shortcuts.
Checked information
Our country guides are checked against official consulate and visa centre sources and dated.
We provide administrative help with Schengen visa paperwork. We do not give UK immigration advice, and the Luxembourg consulate makes every decision.
How appointments work
Your appointment with the official visa centre is free to book and is made by you, in your own name, on the official booking site. Dates, availability and the visa decision are entirely in the hands of the centre and the consulate. We do the part that is in your hands: a complete, consistent, well-evidenced application.
What we do
What is not in our hands
It depends on your passport, not your UK residence. British, Irish and EU citizens do not need a visa for short stays. Many other UK residents, including Indian, Pakistani, Nigerian, Bangladeshi, Chinese and South African nationals, must apply for a Schengen visa before travelling, even with settled status or a Skilled Worker visa. Luxembourg applications from the UK are made at the Embassy in London.
No. The Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign Affairs directs UK short-stay and long-stay visa applications to the Embassy of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, 27 Wilton Crescent, London SW1X 8SD, and neither it nor the Embassy names a VFS Global, TLScontact or BLS International centre for the UK. Some third-party websites say otherwise; rely on the official pages.
Email the consular section at [email protected], which the Embassy says is how visa appointments are booked. There is no online calendar and no walk-ins. It helps to give your full name as in your passport, nationality, travel dates, purpose of travel and a UK phone number, and to reply quickly when a date is offered. You request the appointment yourself, in your own name.
No. The Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign Affairs directs UK visa applications to the Embassy in London. Luxembourg has an Honorary Consul in Edinburgh for Scotland, but visa applications go to the Embassy. Applicants from Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and the north of England travel to Belgravia to submit and give fingerprints, and may need to return to collect their passport.
The visa fee is €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6 to 11; children under 6 pay nothing. Because you apply directly at the Embassy, there is no visa centre service charge. Ask the Embassy, when it confirms your appointment, how the fee is collected and the current sterling amount. The fee is not refunded if the visa is refused.
Luxembourg's own visa pages set no fixed daily amount, but the EU's published reference amounts for crossing the external border (updated June 2026) list Luxembourg at €67 per person per day, and consulates use these figures as a guide. Treat that as a floor: you must show sufficient means for the whole stay and your return journey, on top of your normal UK outgoings. If a host in Luxembourg is paying, an engagement de prise en charge approved by the Ministry is recognised as proof of means.
It is a free formal obligation by which a sponsor living in Luxembourg commits to cover your stay, healthcare and return journey. The host applies online through MyGuichet.lu or on paper with their signature legalised by their commune, and the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign Affairs must approve it. It can be used for one trip within 6 months of approval and does not guarantee a visa.
Yes, for a Luxembourg visa you prove UK status with your UKVI eVisa, because BRPs have expired. Generate a share code on GOV.UK and print the status page showing your name, permission type and expiry date. A share code lasts 90 days, so create it shortly before your appointment. Your UK permission should usually run at least 3 months beyond your return; Luxembourg's pages do not state a figure, so confirm with the Embassy.
Apply to the country where you spend the most nights. Three nights in Luxembourg City and two in Brussels is a Luxembourg application; the reverse goes to Belgium through TLScontact. If nights are equal, the main purpose decides, then the first Schengen country you enter. Day trips to Trier or Metz do not change your main destination if you sleep in Luxembourg.
No. You cannot travel to Luxembourg until the Embassy has decided your application and returned your passport with the visa inside. Do not book non-refundable flights or hotels while you wait, as the decision can take up to 45 days if more checks are needed. Apply early, between 6 months and 15 days before travel.
The Embassy lists a visa collection window of 15:00 to 16:00, Monday to Friday, separate from its application hours of 09:00 to 16:00. Confirm at your appointment whether you must collect in person or can send someone, or whether another return method is accepted. Check the visa sticker for your name, dates, entries and days before you leave.
Yes. You can send an administrative appeal, as a formal letter signed by hand, to the Passport, Visa and Legalisation Office in Luxembourg City within 3 months of being notified of the refusal. You can also bring a court appeal before the Administrative Tribunal, which a lawyer must lodge within the same 3 months. Some applicants reapply instead with evidence that answers each refusal reason.
